PERFORMING SEARCH
[1.] Enter your search words into the search box found on every page. We
use automatic Boolean search operators. You do not need to enter AND OR
NOT "..." + etc. You may choose a search mode – ALL ANY EXACT (more
detailed information below).
[2.] Press Enter or press the Find-It! button and the results will be
listed.
Your results will be displayed in ascending date sort order (earliest
date listed first.) You may choose to sort by most recent date first by
resorting the date in the result page.
Our powerful search engine also looks for synonyms of certain keywords
making your search more accurate and comprehensive. Results of search
words you type display highlighted
but synonym words, although
displayed, are not highlighted. Example: Searches for 911 will also
display all records with 9/11, World Trade Center, WTC, September 11,
Sept. 11 but only the search term of 911
will display as a highlighted
word. Similarly, if one searches for 911 and a record only containing
September 11 is found, the record will be displayed but the phrase
September 11 will not be highlighted.
DETAILED DESCRIPTIONS
Click the underlined title of a record to receive further detailed
information and descriptions. A new pop-up screen will appear with
descriptions. From this screen you may create a wishlist.
CREATE A WISHLIST AND SUBMIT A WISHLIST
As you review your results, you can create a wishlist of stories you
find of interest and would like us to send to you for preview. You can
add different records to a wishlist by clicking "Add this Item to
wishlist". Once you have finished your session, just click Submit
Wishlist and follow the instructions. We will then get back to you with
further information. Please note: Your wishlist is temporary and will be
lost once you close this session.
SEARCH MODES
ALL: Select all and the results will display every record that contains
all of the word(s) that you typed. [This search acts like the Boolean
operator AND.]
EXAMPLE: searches for coming home do match records containing the single
words coming and home as well as records containing homecoming or coming
and homeland.
ANY: Select any and the results will display every record that contains
any occurrence of the word(s) you typed. [This search acts like the
Boolean operator OR.]
EXAMPLE: the term teen youth will display all records containing the
words teen or youth or teenager or youthful.
EXACT: Select exact and the results will display records that contain
only the exact phrase you typed. [This search acts like the Boolean
operator ADJ.]
EXAMPLE: Tina Turner will display all records containing Tina Turner,
but will not match records only containing the term Tina visits Turner
or Martina Turner.
